and Sushi Bar, Downtown Cabo San Lucas,
Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Award Winning Japanese Cuisine

Nick-San Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar has a seating capacity for 100 people and features an open kitchen with a Sushi Bar that run the length of the restaurant with excellent illumination and a minimalistic decoration style. The menu is creative and in many ways unique. Its owners, Angel Carbajal and Masayuki Niikura are constantly improving the dishes and its presentation. The quality and the taste of this cuisine makes of Nick-San one of the most popular and exclusive restaurants in Cabo San Lucas. Menu items include Tuna Kushiyaki (broiled Japanesse style BBQ), appetizers like Fresh Sashimi Salad, Seabass Teriyaki with rice and Miso soup for the main course, Sushi Combos or a California Roll. They give us an innovative euro-asian menu and the style of "nouvelle cuisine" and also demonstrates a unique style in the preparation of Sushi.

Nick-San Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar
Los Cabos Guide review by Sheri Lynn Wilson - September 2003

When you step inside Nick-San Japanese Restaurant and the door closes behind you, it seems that you have temporarily left Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and walked into a restaurant you might find in New York City or Los Angeles without the big city prices. The atmosphere is buzzy and fun, as well as classy and sophisticated. The sushi bar runs the full length of the air conditioned restaurant, giving most diners a birds-eye view of the chefs hard at work, putting their personal stamp on each creation.

I found the menu to be creative and very thorough; the portions quite generous. I tend to order as I go, and typically start with a personal favorite, (which is not listed on the menu but they have it nonetheless) the Soybeans Sprinkled with Sea Salt. I can eat an entire bowl of these, and Nick-San serves them up fresh. I also love their hand rolled spicy tuna for an appetizer, followed by the Sushi Combo, which consists of ten different pieces, all rolled to perfection & extremely fresh and delicious!

After my dinner partner and I worked our way through the Sushi, it was time for the main course. I ordered the Mixed Tempura which consists of mixed vegetables and four large prawns, served with miso soup and rice on the side. I can honestly say that the tempura batter was “just right”. Nice and light, with a bit of crunch to it. My friend had the Sashimi cilantro, which was the waiter’s recommendation; who was, by the way, very attentive and professional. This creative dish was beautifully prepared, resembling a sun. Pan seared spicy sea bass in a creamy cilantro sauce infused with chili and surrounded by bright green slices of avacado, against a stark white plate.

I cannot fail to mention that Nick-San has a full bar, Japanese beer, and a great selection of hot or cold Sake.

Reservations are suggested, and be sure to come hungry so that you too can work your way through the menu!
